I'm trying to fill a form, but the font is way too big for my information to fit in the field. Is there a way I can adjust the font size in a fillable field on a document I didn't create?

If it's not protected or signed, yes. Go to Tools - Prepare Form then right-click the field, select Properties and under the Appearance tab set the font size to Auto.

If I go to Tools / Prepare Form, it takes me to a place to upgrade to Acrobat Pro. Is there a way to do this without Acrobat Pro? Or does this mean the form is protected? This is an official Boy Scout form.

You need Acrobat to do it, yes. It can be Acrobat Pro or Standard, but not the free Acrobat Reader.
